Maggie inserted the endoscope into the Interior Live Oak. The rest of us crowded around. It was our first moment of co-creation on the slopes of Mt. Ainos, an icebreaker of sorts en route to an old monastery. “It felt tender,” Maggie says. From then on, we were primed for further collaboration as our hike continued.

The spirit of a horse overtook us. Matt whinnied softly, and the threshold was broken. Inside threshing circles, straddling cement troughs, and standing atop ancient rocks overlooking the Ionian sea, we each took turns embodying the soul of a horse, and relaying what was happening inside our bodies. An equine stream-of-consciousness poured forth. Chiara took the thought experiment further by putting herself out to pasture and letting herself be covered in flies.

Tom pulled a Force Majeure when a frothing, rabid dog attempted to break its chain. He was reminded of the earlier conversation about Heidegger with Matt, which irked him. A line form the great philosopher flashed through his mind: “Every man is born as many men and dies as a single one.” A trip of goats shepherded us to the car. Black Phillip led the way, and we decided to live deliciously. Our bodies thirsted for saltwater and upon return to sea level, we dove into the Mediterranean.
