The Limits of Things (2022)
Text-Based Video Installation
"One cannot step twice into the same river, nor can one grasp any mortal substance in a stable condition, but it scatters and again gathers; it forms and dissolves, and approaches and departs.."
-Heraclitus.
"The Limits of Things" Is a text-based installation that considers the nature of all material relations through the lens of archaeological excavation. Words are used to perform and bracket relations in the events of excavation revealing a privileging of objects (nouns and their qualifying counterparts) over action (verbs). Language is thus revealed as a machine for the construction of determinate objects. As we open to a natural flow in the relations of action (what Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel calls “lassen”) we discover that matter both differentiates and merges between objects, simultaneously substantiating itself in multiple forms, across time and space.
